この作品の名前は「 the wizardress 」ですが、「女性の魔法使い」という意味ですね。（本来は「 r 」なしの「 the wizardess 」ですが、私には「 r 」を入れた方が響きが良く聞こえます。）

The name of this piece is “the wizardress,” meaning, of course, a woman wizard (it should actually be “the wizardess” without an “r” at the end, but for some reason I like the sound of the “r”.)

邪悪な「黒魔術」を利用するというイメージの「魔女」（ witch ）ではなく、善か悪、どちらかを特定しない「魔法」を使う女性です。右側に座っているこの女性の魔法使いは怖く見えるとすれば、それは邪悪な存在からではなく、未知の世界を代表する存在からです。

This is not a “witch,” that is to say a woman known for using evil “black magic,” but instead a woman who uses “magic” that is not designated by name as belonging solely to the realm of either good or evil. If this female wizard sitting towards the right of the drawing looks frightening, it is not because she is an evil presence, but because she represents the world of the unknown.

または、深い闇の中の真実を持ってきてくれている天使や私たちの自我を消しにきてくれた仏様のような存在で、自己欺瞞を常にしている私たちにとっては悪魔にしか見えないような存在かもしれません。自己欺瞞や自我を宝物と間違え、固執していれば、このような真実を持ってきたり、自我を消しにきたりする存在は怖く見えるかもしれません。

Perhaps she is an angel who brings up truth from the dark depths or a Buddha-like being come to purge our egos, and appears frightening to us because we are constantly in a state of self-deception. Maybe that kind of truth or purging would appear frightening if we cling to our lies and egos, mistaking them for treasures.

その神秘的な存在の周りに、魔法使いまたは妖怪のように見えるものが集まっています。私たちを見ているかのように向いているものもいれば、遠いところを見据えて、考え事をしているように見えるものもいます。

Around this mysterious entity, beings that look like wizards or strange creatures gather. Some of them are turned this way as if looking at us, while others look as if they are gazing far away into the distance.

これらも女性の魔法使いと同じく、直接ペンで描き、鉛筆のデッサンも下絵も描かないで描いたものです。夢の世界で会える「潜在意識」との繋がりを磨き、起きている世界で動く「顕在意識」から余計な要素（アイデアの提案や調整など）をできるだけ最低限にするためにシュールレアリスム（超現実主義）で使われる「自動描画」という概念を借りて描きました。このように描く場合は何が出てくるか分かりませんし、出てくるものの本当の意味が分からないことが多いです。夢の意味を探るという行為と同じく、描いた後で絵を見て意味を想像するしかできません。

I drew these beings directly with a pen without any sketching or pencil drawings, and I drew the female wizard in that way as well. In order to polish my connection with my subconscious mind, which we meet in the realm of dreams, and minimize any unnecessary elements from the conscious mind (like presenting or editing ideas), which is active in our waking state, I borrowed ideas from a technique used in surrealism called automatic drawing. When I draw in this method, I don’t know what is going to come out, and a lot of the time I don’t understand the meaning of what does come out. I can only imagine the meaning by looking at the drawing after it is done, just like the act of searching for meaning in a dream.
